Do it for free, and people smile:
“How lovely! Such a thoughtful deed!”
Ask for one small accountability fee:
and suddenly, you’re driven by greed.
They praise the work, applaud the cause,
Admire the change it helps to bring;
But name its worth, and watch them ask,
“Is there a discount? Is it free if we sing?”
The well-resourced may miss its value
Till someone with less says, “This matters to me.”
Then the price tag becomes the problem,
Not the benefit they could plainly see.
Ah, life’s a charming little play:
Good work is gold, my friend, when someone else pays!!!!
