Cocoon Diaries: Entry #10 – When Silence Is the Loudest Power — The Day I Chose Not to Reply, React, or Retaliate (and Felt Fabulous)

……Free!!!

The Power of Not Saying Anything
They came with taunts, and traps, and clever lines,
With baited threads to pull me in their fight.
Their words like pins, their tones like warning signs —
I could have flared, but chose a softer light.

I let their drama echo on its own,
My calm a cloak no dagger could undo.
Their chaos danced, but I stood still, alone —
A silent wall they simply couldn’t chew.

No hissy fits, no snappy, sassy blow —
Just one raised brow, one cup of chai — and peace.
My silence said what loud words couldn’t show:
"This isn’t worth my headache. Please release."

And lo, I walked — head high, undamaged pride.
With Loki, two bunnies, and snacks by my side.

The Pre-Silence Me (Also Known As: The Responder)

Ah, the old days.
I was the queen of well-crafted responses.

  • Sarcastic replies that would make Shakespeare slow clap.
  • Long emotional voice notes (that I ended up replaying more than the recipient).
  • Mental courtroom trials where I imagined delivering the perfect final word.

And for what?
Their opinion?
Their approval?
Their shock at my genius?

No.
I usually just ended up with a headache, a pounding heart, and a sudden craving for carbs.

The Great Shift: Silence as Superpower

One day, I just didn’t feel like performing.

Someone said something loaded.
Someone posted something shady.
Someone threw a well-disguised insult my way.

And I…
didn’t react.

No rebuttal.
No passive-aggressive emoji.
Not even a sarcastic snort.

I just made a face, sipped my tea, looked at Loki, and asked him if he wanted a treat.

His response?
He wagged his tail and farted.

Which, honestly, was more dignified than anything I might’ve said.

What Happened Next?

Nothing.
And it was glorious.

  • No escalation.
  • No after-the-fight guilt.
  • No “Why did I say that?” spiral.
  • Just… peace.

They were left hanging. Waiting. Fizzled out.
Because nothing frustrates a drama addict more than a person who refuses to perform.

Keeping the focus and hanging in there helps!
Resilience can be seen from plants…wherever they may be they grow and adjust and make the most of the scenario around them.

My Support Squad During the Drama-Drought

  • 🐶 Loki:
A sniffer of vibes. When tension’s high, he plants himself next to me, as if to say, “Don’t do it. Breathe. Pat me instead.”
  • 🐇 The Bunnies:
Honestly? They couldn’t care less who insulted me. They just want their greens on time.
But their complete disinterest in human melodrama is… inspiring.
  • 🪴 My Balcony Plants:
They didn’t grow any faster post-drama.
Which proves: drama has zero nutritional value.
The healthy curly Kale grew just as it wanted…unhurried!!

Why Silence Isn’t Weakness — It’s Elegant Self-Defence

Here’s the thing: silence is not about being scared, or passive, or frozen.

It’s about:

  • Knowing your energy is precious
  • Choosing your peace over temporary validation
  • Letting fools wonder why they didn’t get to rattle you

Because reactions are currency.
And frankly, I’m on a tight emotional budget.

My Liberated Musings:

The day I said nothing, I gained everything:

  • My calm
  • My pride
  • My clarity
  • My sanity
  • My entire lunch (uninterrupted)

Sometimes, the most powerful sentence is the one you never say.

So the next time someone throws bait, try this:
Raise one eyebrow.
Sip your tea.
Smile slightly.
Walk away.
(Optionally: pet a bunny.)

Victory never looked so quietly fabulous. And liberating!

Keeping my calm despite the chaos – takes time but an art that can be perfected!
