Its Okay, even if its not Okay – for life goes on……….
The Fairness Fable
I walked life's path with rule book in my hand,
Believed in right and wrong like solid ground.
That good deeds bloom, and justice takes a stand,
That fair returns for all would spin around.
But life, that crafty player, shook its head:
"Dear child, I don’t do balanced scorecards here."
At times, the worst get roses, best get bled,
While honest hearts wait long for skies to clear.
Yet still, I choose to walk my steady line,
With love, with hope, with laughter in my chest.
For though the rules may wobble, fate may whine —
Peace blooms in hearts that simply do their best.
And so I live, not fair, but full and bright —
Surrounded by my crew of fur and light.
The Great Fairness Illusion
As a child, I genuinely thought life came with an invisible referee.
- You do good? You get good.
- You’re honest? You’re rewarded.
- You work hard? You succeed.
- You’re kind? You’re loved.
Well.
Life heard me.
Laughed.
Filed that under: “Sweet. Completely false. Next.”
The Reality Check: Where The Unfair Gets Hilarious
- People who barely worked got promotions/accolades.
- People who lied got applause/recognition.
- People who manipulated got followers/posts.
- And people like me? Got more work, maybe frustration and sometimes a heartbreak.
But instead of turning into a bitter, ranting philosopher (okay, briefly, I did), I discovered something better:
If life won’t play fair, why not play peaceful?
The Animal Council of Sanity
Let’s meet my in-house panel who’ve been mentoring me through this unfairness jungle (such a blessing):
Loki (The Beagle of Balanced Reactions):
When unfairness strikes, Loki responds with two expressions:
1️⃣ The Blank Stare:
“Is this snack-related? No? Then why should I care?”
2️⃣ The Snuggle:
When I sigh, frustrated, Loki promptly places his head on my lap as if to say:
“You can’t control them. But you can pet me.”
The Bunnies (Department of Soft Acceptance):
The bunnies — bless them — embody pure serenity.
- They munch their hay regardless of world events.
- They don’t track who got what.
- They don’t chase promotions, compliments, or validation.
- They simply wiggle their noses and trust that carrots will appear eventually.
Their policy:
“The world is unfair? So? My hay is fresh. My ears are clean. Life’s fine.”
The Moment I Finally Understood
One particularly rough week, while I was obsessing over yet another “unfair thing that shouldn’t have happened,” I noticed:
- Loki yawning mid-my-rant.
- The bunnies quietly munching away.
- The sky still blue.
- My coffee still warm.
- My home still my safe space.
And suddenly I laughed.
Loki blinked.
The bunnies wiggled.
And I whispered out loud:
“Life may not play fair. But I refuse to stop playing happy.”
The New Rule Book (Written by Me, Approved by the Pets)
- Goodness isn’t a transaction. It’s who I am.
- Fairness isn’t guaranteed. But peace is chosen.
- Life will hand out uneven cards. My pets simply reshuffle and nap. So shall I.
- Bitterness is optional. So I opt out.
Coming to my musings:
The world’s fairness department might be permanently out of service.
But my home, my family, my furballs and fluffballs?
Fully operational.
And when unfairness strikes?
I take a deep breath, hug Loki, give the bunnies extra greens, pour myself a second coffee —
and carry on.
Because while life doesn’t always play fair,
it still plays beautiful music — if you stop long enough to listen.
