They say motherhood begins with a test,
But mine began with a thump in the chest—
A sense, not of fear, but of something vast,
A knowing… that life was about to move fast.
It wasn't just nappies or sleepless nights,
Nor wiping small tears or settling fights—
It was detective work, round-the-clock,
With instincts sharper than a courtroom doc.
I sniffed fibs before they formed as thoughts,
Could decode a silence, connect all the dots.
With a raised brow and a side glance or two,
I'd cracked more 'cases' than Sherlock ever knew!
In school corridors, I’ve seen it all—
The epic snack trades, the bathroom brawls.
"Ma'am, I didn’t mean to, it just… happened."
(Oh child, I’ve used that line, back when I imagined…)
No guilt ever tagged along with my work—
Motherhood wasn't a martyr's perk.
I chose to chase dreams, still tucked him in,
And taught him both—how to lose, and how to win.
He came first. Always. That was my law.
Meetings waited, but never his awe.
His art stuck on walls, his voice on my phone,
And a fortress of love he always called home.
Now he’s grown, taller (with a wittier tongue),
Our battles have shifted, but the game’s still young.
My antennas? Still up. Yes, 24/7.
Zero tolerance mode? Still version eleven.
I’ve learnt it’s not biology that makes one a mother,
But empathy that sees every child as another.
It’s in giving, guiding, guarding the spark,
In holding hands through every dark.
Becoming a mom? My soul’s best chance—
To grow, to trip, to laugh, to dance.
To see life not as a race or a plan—
But a messy, magical marathon I ran.
And if I had to sum it all in one line—
It’s this:
Motherhood made the human in me truly shine.
Thank you for reading! If you smiled, related, or simply nodded at the wit and warmth in these verses—you’re already part of this wonderfully chaotic tribe called motherhood.
Let’s keep celebrating the instinct, empathy, and unapologetic choices that define us.
