The True Essence of Living
In a world where we are continually urged to be future-ready, it’s easy to overlook what truly matters: the present moment. The emphasis on always preparing for tomorrow often eclipses the simple yet profound act of living in the ‘today.’ The future is uncertain, a nebulous blend of hopes and fears, while the present is tangible, vibrant, and real.
I oft dwell on the Fallacy of Future-Ready…………
Being future-ready is often touted as the ultimate goal. We are encouraged to plan meticulously, anticipate challenges, and prepare for every possible scenario. I do that everyday and have done it all my life but……..
While preparation and foresight are valuable, the obsession with the future can become a burden. It creates a constant state of anxiety, where we are perpetually chasing a mirage of what might be, rather than enjoying what is.
Living in the present doesn’t mean disregarding the future. It means understanding that the present is the only moment we truly have. The future is built on a series of present moments, and by fully embracing each one, we naturally set the stage for a fulfilling future.
I have continued to believe and rely heavily of having an honest Accountability to Oneself………..
The sum total of one’s existence is not measured by the opinions of others but by one’s own honest self-assessment. Being answerable to oneself is the cornerstone of a meaningful life. It requires introspection, self-awareness, and a commitment to personal integrity even in the face of extreme odds.
When we live to meet others’ expectations, we often lose sight of our true selves. We become actors in a play, performing roles dictated by societal norms and external pressures. This can lead to a sense of disconnection and dissatisfaction, as we struggle to reconcile our inner desires with outer demands.
Being honestly answerable to oneself means taking the time to understand our own values, passions, and aspirations. It means making choices that align with our true selves, rather than conforming to what others think we should be. This self-alignment brings a deep sense of fulfilment and peace, as we live authentically and true to our own principles.
I have started to believe strongly in the Power of the Present………..
The present moment is where life happens. It’s where we experience joy, sorrow, love, and growth. By fully immersing ourselves in the present, we open ourselves to the richness of life. We become more attuned to the beauty around us, the opportunities that arise, and the relationships that nourish us.
Mindfulness, the practice of being fully present, helps us appreciate the here and now. It allows us to savour the small joys, find meaning in everyday activities, and connect deeply with others. When we are present, we are more responsive, more creative, and more alive.
It’s Overrated I feel this Notion of Future-Ready……………
The idea that we must always be preparing for the future can lead to a life of constant striving, where we are never truly satisfied. It suggests that our current state is never enough, that we must always be better, smarter, and more prepared. This mindset can create a perpetual state of inadequacy, where we are always looking ahead and never content with the now.
Instead, we should strive to be present-ready. This means being fully engaged in the moment, making the most of our current circumstances, and trusting that by doing so, we are naturally preparing for the future. It means recognizing that our true worth is not measured by future achievements, but by our present actions and attitudes.
Being alive in the ‘today’ is about embracing the present moment with all its imperfections and possibilities. It’s about being honestly answerable to oneself and living authentically. The future will come, but it is shaped by how we live today. By focusing on the now, we build a life of meaning, connection, and true fulfillment.
So, why don’t you plan to give yourself permission to be present, to be real, and to live fully in the moment. More so now, than in any other era.
