Of Stories, Drawings and Growing up……

….catching up on my memories!

A bit of monsoon cleaning led me to a long lying in the corner basket full of old papers and folders. As I rummaged through them, a yellowed chart paper folder caught my attention. As I grabbed my glasses to set my vision right, a smile appeared on my lips.

Aha! Memories from years ago.

My 3-year-old son’s “potfolio” from his kindergarten.

Those were the days…..and as a parent the innumerable ‘do this and don’t do that’ advice and ‘Oh does he…; he doesn’t’? questioning would never confuse me for I had that unshakeable belief in my child.
My son’s Kindergarten portfolio from his IB curriculum – such a delight!
My son’s favourite story and his drawing is the cutest…..One thing is for sure he ain’t got my drawing traits – Nope not at all!!!
But his other creative side was his imagination and his desire to do everything orally.

Our story as we went to and fro to school each day – making up names, drawing from our imaginary pets and then not liking the fact that I wanted him to colour the sketching which I had done. But a fact which emerged then and stays till today is his love of animals and my, my does he have a way with them.

I tell all parents today and have told many throughout my career as an educator that a child’s biggest support is their parent. And behind every successful child is a parent who believed in them and kept their own fears aside to allow them to blossom on their own.

Pets after ages – as we agreed to have rabbits – the earliest ones; Now we are pros and have a self-proclaimed Ph.D.. in rabbit behaviour and upkeep!
