The difference between You and Me!

Cheers to accepting Me as me and You as you!

When there are comparisons, we often find them offensive. Comparisons are not bad till they are portrayed thus.

What I am is Me. What you are is You. Yet being two different people is what makes comparisons possible. (https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/comparison)

But if we are two different people then how can you compare?

In every situation I find myself in, I think of how different I am from those around me. It is simple. It is straightforward and it is about being who I am. For the other person similarly, it is about being them. When each of us are distinct from the other, the act of comparing similarities or dissimilarities is purely academic. And unnecessary, I feel.

Even in similarities there are differences. “You and she are so alike. Both of you are extremely bold.”  My ‘bold’ could be about speaking my mind fearlessly while hers could be about daring to drive to another friend’s place, in another state all by her herself.

The difference remains,
As it should always be.
My actions contain,
My thoughts, values as I see.

Yours would be the way
You see things in your world,
How can both display,
Mine or yours as similar words?

I love my tea,
You may love a drink,
I care to keep my peace as key
And you value your friendships links.

Each is entitled to view around
The way each finds their peace,
For what I go thru come from my ground
And your playing field is your centrepiece!

When we find the stillness of satisfaction,
Within us and in our actions,
Then comparisons disappear as do reactions,
The desire to just be us becomes the biggest attraction!
I wonder why we fear being alone; try embracing solitude! A loner, a rebel are better tags than untrustworthy or part of a mob!
We are all part of a garden where many a flowers of different hues exist – acceptance of the diversity and the differences makes it so much worth it and keeping one’s sanity while at it is the icing on the cake!

It comes from their personal point of view and is shaped by life experiences, values, their current state of mind, the assumptions they bring into a situation, and a whole lot of other things. Reality can be different things. We can easily say that my perspective is my reality.

  6. Even 2 people from similar backgrounds cannot be the same. Each has their own path to walk and that shapes them. As they say, every cloud has a silver lining.

  7. Wow, what a lovely thought and equally a beautiful post. Firstly, I so love this theme that be yourself. There are difference in thoughts, tastes, choices, ideologies so people are tend to be different. Always follow your heart and be yourself. Loved the poem.

  8. Every person is unique in their own way. No two persons can’t be completely same and others might accept that. I’m ‘me’ and you’re ‘you’. Accept it, don’t follow other’s footprints and be happy.

  10. Lovely blog and liked the title so much. True that why do we need to compare ourselves with anyone else… Do not get influence by anything that makes you start to compare yourself with others.

  13. Wonderful thoughts! Each person has his own individuality and we cannot club two individuals in the same bracket.
At the same time, accepting your individuality without hesitation is the need of the time.

  14. No two people are alike in this world and never will be. We all are individuals with our own individual quirks. But I wonder why you said this “I wonder why we fear being alone; try embracing solitude! A loner, a rebel is a better tag than untrustworthy or part of a mob!”
I have been living alone for 15 years. Believe me, the loneliness kills me. It’s not easy to live alone and I am no rebel.

    1. Hi Harjeet thanks for reading my writing……I say this for I have learnt to distinguish between loneliness and solitude – I agree about being ‘alone and the loneliness’ – I can empathise so much with your situation because I have seen my father face similar circumstances after my Mom passed away but his saving grace was his work, I guess. In my post I have meant it in the scenario of when people shy away from saying uncomfortable truths and decide to do lip service by being part of the crowd…. have seen this in my professional life. Have called a spade a spade and have been upright and straightforward – everyone loves those qualities but in a professional setup they are liabilities. ‘Rebel’ in terms of being different from the usual ‘tags’ which society and people love to label us with – I like it when my professional reputation of being absolutely fair makes my students adore me and make the other majority squirm in their seats.
Scenarios may be different Harjeet but from what I gather from your writings is an extremely strong woman – who faced the odds squarely and with utmost dignity and as you wrote you have taught your children to be independent – a super achievement for someone who ahs done it all alone. I admire your grit and in that sense I would term you a ‘rebel’ of the circumstances of destiny. Do keep strong – your posts are lovely to go through.

  17. Another excellent one. I really enjoy reading your posts. You are so right. The interpretation of bold may be different for different individuals depending on the circumstances. Same goes with success, failure, what have you. Much like comparing apples to oranges.

  19. You have brilliantly explained all the logic behind embracing individuality that very rare pays heed and adore. Noone on the planet has their clown then; how come a comparison can be made. Real art is hidden beneath knowing what you possess and knowing what someone else possesses, and both parties have their own beauty. Well penned.
